Did You Know???


  • The largest enrollment was 1976-77 with 962 students (633 HS, 329 Jr. High). The largest graduating class was 159 in 1979.
  • The name "Beckman High School" was suggested by several high school students and selected by the governing Board from a list of over 50 different names. The school was named after Archbishop Beckman, 6th Bishop of Dubuque. 2/24/66
  • The school colors of kelly green and gold were chosen by a vote of the 530 high school students in the 5 corporate parishes. Kelly green and gold received 260 votes and royal blue and gold received 94, with royal blue and scarlet receiving 90 votes. 4/28/66
  • The nickname Trail Blazers was selected after a survey of students and faculty stated they wanted something different. 8/4/66. Ensuing conversation let to naming the school newspaper, stating "Every Trail Blazer needs an Outpost." Emmet Omar '67.
  • Sister Mary Claudine, first grade teacher, designed the official school emblem, resembling a Bishop's mitre, and a large 'B' and the words Beckman H.S., signifying the person for whom the school was named.
  • The patron saint of Beckman High School is Mary, the "Seat of Wisdom."
  • The first Beckman graduating class had 121 students (1967).
  • Beckman has won 6 state baseball titles. (1968, 1986, 2000, 2012, 2013, 2017)
